Qualifications for Members of the Board of Education

 

  • Must be able to read and write
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be a citizen of the United States
  • Must be a resident of the “Anywhere” Central School District for at least one year prior to the election

 

A board member does not necessarily have to be a taxpayer. No more than one member of a family shall be a member of the same Board of Education in any school district.
      
     
Filing a Nominating Petition

      
For 2024, a petition requires 2% of the total number of voters in 2023 of qualified voters of the district, minimum 25 signatures. A qualified voter is eighteen (18) years of age or older, a citizen of the United States, a resident of the district for at least thirty (30) days prior to the vote.

 

Married women must sign their given name for a signature to be valid. (Mary Smith, not Mrs. John Smith.)

 

Each signature must be followed by an address within the “Anywhere: Central School District boundaries.

 

Validity of petitions are the responsibility of the candidate and must be returned to the office of the “Anywhere” Central School District Clerk, District Administrative Offices, (ADDRESS) no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 22, 2024.

      
     
Terms
     
In May 2022, “Anywhere” School District voters will elect two (2) persons (could be a different number, depending on the district) to the Board of Education for three-year terms. (Could be a five year term, depending on the district.)

      
     
Financial Statements
     
Education law requires school board candidates to file a statement of campaign contributions and expenses thirty (30) and five (5) days before the election and not later than twenty (20) days after the election. If a candidate’s campaign expenditures exceed $500, the candidate must file a sworn statement with both the district clerk and the commissioner of education itemizing their expenditures. This statement must list the amounts of all money or other valuable things paid, given, expended or promised by the candidate, or incurred for or on the candidate’s behalf with his or her approval. A candidate who spends $500 or less is only required to file a sworn statement with the district clerk indicating this to be the case.
